Bell Gathas (Verses)

Verse for Inviting the Bell
Body, speech, and mind, held in perfect oneness–
I send my heart along with the sound of the bell.
May the hearers awaken from forgetfulness
and transform all anxiety and sorrow.

Verse upon Hearing the Bell
Listen, listen,
this wonderful sound
brings me back to my true home.

Use Anger for Positive Change

OK, I see it now.

Indulging anger includes stuffing it in and letting it fester and turn into resentment and hatred.

I need to USE my anger instead of it using me.  (I guess I did learn this from my mother after all.)

Make a Zagu for Mike

So, I'll be going to Marcus's Tomorrow to work on Mike's Okesa for his April ceremony and I'm sure that they haven't done the Zagu. So, I'll do it.  Probably haven't thought about the envelope either.

Be a Locksmith

OK, I would just call one, but the spouse thinks he should be able to do it (except he can't due to MS) so he thinks I will.

Leap a Day

This is leap day and I'm going to just leap it.

It seems to be getting harder to find wonderful things to resolve. Which may mean I'm getting lazy. I'm making a lot of progress on the shredding and clutter removal. Less on others.

Anyhow. Today I LEAP.

Be Very Gentle With Myself!

Growth is an erratic forward movement: two steps forward, one step back. Remember that and be very gentle with yourself.

Don't Be Old

Do not grow old, no matter how long you live. Never cease to stand like curiouschildren before the Great Mystery into which we were born.

Look Afresh at What I Take For Granted

To think creatively, we must be able to look afresh at what we normally take for granted.

Eliminate The Non-Essentials

Besides the noble art of getting things done, there is the noble art of leaving things undone. The wisdom of life consists in the elimination of non-essentials. -- Lin Yutang

Get New Glasses

No way my glasses are cheap - very nearsighted with reading correction and I wear the good progressives. But why does it need to take three hours at the eye doctor and have my eyes screwed up the whole day? I hope I don't hate the new glasses as much as the current ones. The narrow frames are popular and they just don't work right with someone who has severe myopia and presbyopia.

I do hope that hubby will be pleased with his too. Last summer he fell out of his wheelchair onto the driveway (twice - in exactly the same way) and scratched and mangled his glasses quite well (not to mention his face). You would think it was my fault by the way he tells the story and complains about the my failure to tote him to the eye doctor to get them fixed. We needed to wait until 2012 to do it so the insurance would pay for new frames.

In any case, I will need to report back on how the new ones do.

Celebrate Anachronism!

This is a 1970's era instant camera which used rather expensive film and made exactly one print and required a bit of hassle (timing, spreading developer fluid). The picture of it was taken with an Android phone (a rather cheap one at that), which can make manifest the image anywhere in the world (and probably most of space eventually).

The 15 year-old portable printer works (with new ink). For some reason I bought a lifetime supply of ink 15 years ago so I hope the printer keeps working.

The 20 year-old portable cassette player (with new batteries) plays a cassette of 40 year-old music (which still also works).

Rearrange and Inflate Bookshelves

BEFORE
Way down at the end you can almost see a really nice antique bookcase that belonged to my grandfather. I must have been on drugs when we put in the new bookcases because they obscure the good bookcase in the corner. They also have only 4 shelves for a 7' case which is a huge waste of space since it is much higher than the books. It has been this way for 15 years and I'm finally fed up!  Can you believe that the shelf at the end is 2" narrower than the others so every shelf will have to move, So I have to empty them all out (not to mention cleaning up the table in front of them) and move every single one.

Before - corner view

The rest of the feng-shui in here sucks too, but that will wait! Anyhow, Whitaker is totally freaked out since she thinks that this is her room and she doesn't like change much (or at all).

Find Suryanamaskar

I was never that good (nor my cats), but before my surgery in 2004 I was teaching power yoga (astangha) and in really good shape (not just for my age). It turns out that it is a form of exercise that I like, as well as being very effective for what I need (especially for balance and control problems from my MS). It seems, however, that every time I try to get back into shape with it something happens to stop it. Especially since I prefer to do it in a class and there is just no way I can keep up with the youngsters anymore.

So, I'm starting with one Suryanamaskara (sun salutation) a day and not worrying anything more.
